Service Metal Fabricating, Inc. was founded in 1981 by Joe Moretti.  With secondhand equipment, a few employees and a lot of grit and determination the company began.  Sons Joe Jr. and Jim began working with their father in the shop at just 12 and 13 years old on weekends and in their summers off of school.  Although the company began with little capital, Joe Moretti always had a strong urge to advance the company by staying ahead of the competition technologically and in management philosophy.  He also knew the importance of offering customers a full range of manufacturing capability from flat processing through bending, welding, assembly and finishing processes.  In the early 1980’s Joe lead the company in the implementation of CAD/CAM systems to run his layout and engineering department and to program his CNC punching equipment off line.  In 1984 he purchased his first laser machine and became a pioneer in laser cutting in the fabrication industry.  Through the use of all of their cutting edge technology Service Metal was able to manufacture close tolerance and challenging work. The company developed an outstanding reputation for accepting challenging contracts and for helping customers develop their capacities through the successful manufacturing of newly engineered and complex precision components.  Service Metal proved to be very capable of performing consistent quality over short, medium and long runs and was able to service its customers with uniformity and consistent quality fabrications from run to run.  Joe taught his young sons the business from the ground up and by their mid-teens Joe and Jim were setting up and running the CNC equipment including the laser machine.  By the later 1980’s the youngest son Bill began to work in his father’s shop and in the family’s tradition he worked his way from the ground up.  All the while, Joe taught his sons a strong work ethic and a dedication to working with customers to perform high quality work.  He also stressed to his sons the importance of being a loyal and responsible customer to vendors and to be a solid employer for workers.

In the early 1990’s sons Joe and Jim began to help Joe Sr. manage the company.  Bill was also coming of age and furthering his expertise as a mechanic and an expert laser cutter and solidifying his skills for a future management role.  The company entered a huge growth phase at this time.  The shop space occupied doubled almost immediately from 15,000 square feet to over 30,000 square feet.  The company added a brand new laser machine in 1993 that was on the leading edge of laser power and accuracy.  Throughout the early 1990’s the company also acquired CNC milling equipment, CNC bending equipment and CNC robotic welding equipment.  The company also embraced and acquired all of the software tools of the day to aid its customers in design and engineering.  Armed with all of these modern tools, software and talent  Service Metal was able to expand its services to companies that lead their industries in the areas of pharmaceutical, biotech, semi-conductor, aerospace, military, architectural, machine building and many other industries.  Service Metal became a diversified leader in the fabrication of precision components and weldments.  The company also gained an outstanding reputation for manufacturing sanitary weldments and fabrications for the food packaging, semi-conductor, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries.  During the middle of the decade, the company began manufacturing high end vacuum weldments for customers in the semi-conductor and other high-tech areas.  By the end of the 1990’s the company continued its expansion and diversification, making moves into water-jet cutting and in house powder coating and painting.

Today the company stands at 100,000 square feet in 3 facilities.  Service Metal has stayed on the forefront of technology and equipment and retains its founding values of dedication to quality and service to its customers. The company has multiple laser machines all of which are at the leading edge of today’s power, accuracy and automation.  The machine shop is equipped with the most modern machinery in the industry including CNC horizontal and vertical milling as well as CNC turning.  Water-jet capacity and technology has grown as well.  With an almost unmatched diversity of tools and equipment, the company continues its drive towards being a complete and one stop vendor for customers.  Using the latest in design software technology including Pro-E and Solidworks, Service Metal provides engineering and design services to its customers.  Service Metal has built itself into a rare source for quality and workmanship for component manufacturing as well as turnkey equipment and systems.  Unparalleled diversity and technology in its equipment and manufacturing facilities combined with advanced design tools and talent in engineering make Service Metal a powerhouse vendor to its customers.
